The following three books and one CD-Pack we find very helpful and sufficient for a birding tour in Malawi:

 

Sinclair/Ryan: Birds of Africa south of the Sahara
Struik, 2003

The only field guide that covers all species that are found in Malawi.

 

Dowsett-Lemaire/Dowsett: The Birds of Malawi
Tauraco Press, 2006

Very helpful with more detailed descriptions of habits and habitats and distribution maps

 

Cohen/Spottiswoode/Rossouw: Southern African Birdfinder
Struik, 2006

Describes the most interesting birding sites and the birds that are found there

 

Guy Gibbon: Southern African Bird Sounds
Southern African Birding cc, 1995-2003

Does not cover all Malawian species, but nonetheless very helpful
